Friday youth work

by Struthers Cumbernauld

We had around 30 kids at our Friday Club tonight and a couple of new faces among them. Leah began with some singing. Scott then spoke around the theme of trust by showing a short bible story children's video of the story of Esther. Scott explained how Esther had to trust that God would look after her despite the danger she and her people were in from Haman. Scott then demonstrated how we trust people using an experiment involving food. We had 3 volunteers - one was blindfolded and fed spoonfuls of food. The other 2 volunteers would attempt to convince them that they would either love or hate the food they were about to be fed but couldn't see or smell. There was some horrible and delicious options which the kids loved! Scott went on to talk about how as Christians we need to trust God has the best in store for us and we just need to trust him. We then went on to our games, arts and crafts and quiz.

In our student zone, we split into our young adults and teens groups. Zander took the younger group and Scott took the young adults. The older group discussed the Narnia story of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and its parallels with Christian living. This led to a very rich and lengthy discussion around our spiritual lives, the daily struggles we face and how we can change. The younger group also focused on the same Narnia story. It was a very good night all in.
