Thought for the Week by Pastor Diana Rutherford

'All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.' Matt 22:40

The two commandments that Christ was speaking about were:-

1) 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' Matt 22:37

2) 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' Matt 22:39

All the inspired writing of the Bible hang on these two commandments. The word says 'the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.' Isaiah 35:8. Surely if we choose to keep these commandments central within our own hearts, all else will fall into place. 'Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.' Matt 6:33. So let us seek to love the Lord our God first. Love Him with all of your heart (affection and emotions); with all of your soul (in worship and reverence) and with all of your mind (by our thoughts and choices).

If we learn to do this it will not be hard to love our neighbour. Our whole being will become Love and with a servant heart and spirit we will be able to serve Him wholly.

If all the 'Law and the Prophets' hang on these two commandments, we would do well to 'hang' our own lives on them as well. This is something that even the youngest mind can understand.
