'The manifold wisdom of God'

Ephesians 3:10

The word manifold means many; many folds or having many forms. The word manifold is used in the bible in several different contexts.

First of all wisdom. The wisdom of God has many forms or folds. He is able to deal with every complex situation and person that we know. There is nothing He does not understand.

Secondly, in Nehemiah it speaks of His manifold mercies. His mercy knows no bounds, He is able to reach out again and again when we are in need and surround us with His compassion.

Thirdly, in 1 Peter we read of the manifold temptations and the manifold grace of God. There are many varied temptations that come our way that sometimes knock us off our guard. In our Heavenly Father there are many folds of His grace that can keep us and strengthen us in the hour of our temptation. Manifold can also be translated as many coloured. The grace of God is many colours to help us deal with the many coloured temptations that come our way.

I love the thought of the many folds of the wisdom, mercy and grace of God. The sense that we can hide ourselves in His many folds. No matter how long we have walked with Him there is always a new fold to find; a new depth to His facets. Let us seek to find a new fold in the many folds of our infinite God.
