Thought for the week by Pastor Diana Rutherford

Psalm 23: 3
He restoreth my soul

How often we feel in need of restoration! We need restored not only when we have backslidden, or lost our way on the Christian path, but we need restored on a daily basis spiritually!

After a long and arduous day at work we come home with our minds reeling with thoughts of the day. Our whole physical being is going at a faster pace along with our mental faculties. We need to come back to those 'quiet waters' again and let our mind and bodies slow down into the peace and quietness of God.

During a time of fear or worry we discover we have lost the ability to quieten ourselves. It's as if we can't settle to anything and it's easier to keep going than to rest. At such a time 'He makes me to lie down in green pastures'. He restores our soul when we are quiet when we stop rushing and allow our inner being to 'lie down' in the lush presence of God.

Sometimes we have made the wrong choices and it's as if inside we have become tarnished. He restores us with His quiet waters as we learn to let them wash over our soul.

Occasionally when we have given to others, whether spiritually or naturally, we become drained. He restores our soul and fills us again with His own presence until our 'cup runneth over'.

Sometimes we are just tired, physically weary, unable to sleep for whatever reason and again and again He anoints our head with oil and restores our soul.

What a great God we have who gives abundantly of His Holy Spirit whenever we ask. Surely goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our life and we, by our own choices, will choose to dwell in the house of The Lord for ever!
