THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK BY PASTOR DIANA RUTHERFORD

by Struthers Cumbernauld

'At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord Almighty.'

Isaiah 18:7

It has become a very selfish culture in which we live; selfish and self centred.

Before we do anything, we want to know what we will get out of it. If we don't get something out of it we don't do it. As a result our churches have changed their style of music, their form of worship and in some cases even their rules to accommodate and please society! What happened to the good wholesome worship of God where we come and offer ourselves to Him bringing gifts of thanksgiving and sacrifice to Him?

When a person becomes a Christian they have a huge amount of changing to do. The basic change needs to be that we stop thinking about how to please ourselves but instead to bring pleasure to God.

Last week we weren't allowed to grumble! This week, let us choose not to think about ourselves and our pleasures and pastimes. Instead, make a point of pleasing God with our songs of praise, prayers of thanksgiving and joyfulness in serving Him.

After all, a grumbling spirit comes from a resentful self centred person who isn't happy because life isn't going their way. So, when life takes a 'wrong' turn for you choose to be a living sacrifice of praise for Him.

Think how much pleasure we can bring to God through the course of a week if we keep our minds on Him.

'Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.' Romans 12:1-2
