Thought for the week by Diana Rutherford

by Struthers Cumbernauld

"The crowd realized that Jesus and his disciples were not there. So they got into boats and went to Capernaum to look for Jesus."  John 6:24

This verse struck me afresh when I read it.

Sometimes we are so busy enjoying life, making our own plans, coping with stress or difficulties that we lose sight of who and what we believe in. We suddenly realise, like the crowd, that Jesus is not there! Somehow in the midst of life we have lost that vital presence that is so important to us.

What did the crowd do? They put themselves about to find that presence. They even got into boats and crossed a lake to find Him. When we lose the presence of Christ do we put ourselves about to find Him? Do we just wait until the next time church is on thinking 'I'll find Him there' or do we make a point of drawing aside from life to seek His lovely presence?

If we are not careful, life has a habit of passing us by and before we know it a week, a month and even sometimes a year has gone and we still haven't found the One we seek.

Take time out this week.  No matter how full your life is, come apart from everything that is busy or sinful and find Christ more deeply and fully.

Be like the lady in the Song of Songs who said:

"It was but a little that I passed from them [the busy things of life] but I found him whom my soul loveth. I held him and would not let him go."(Ch 3:4)
