Watch Night Service

by Struthers Cumbernauld

Almost 200 people gathered last night in Struthers Church, Glasgow for our Hogmanay service at 11pm. It was the first service of our New Year Conference.
This service is quite different from every other the church holds. The service began with some beautiful, old hymns followed by a lovely testimony given from Pauline Anderson minister of our Struthers London branch. She had experienced a remarkable healing during the course of the year to chronic fatigue. This was followed by a sermon from Isaiah 58:11 preached by Grace Gault. She spoke of the guidance of God in the past and now into the new year. We turned to prayer just before the midnight hour and worshipped God as we entered the New Year. The lines of the poem were quoted:
'And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”'
For some of us it did feel like stepping through a door into a new year. A year with God! No doubt there will be hills and valleys, joys and sorrows but we do know that He is with us and will guide us continually.
We look forward with anticipation to the rest of the conference. All details of services can be found on our home page.
