Ephesians ch5 v11
We began tonight's study by discussing what our reaction to sin and darkness ought to be. Paul makes it very clear that we ought to take care and have no dealings with darkness. We should live our lives in such a way that the darkness in others will be exposed by the Light and we should not take part in it at all.
We should live our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit, and learn to rely upon Him.
Verses 22 to 33 focuses upon the relationship between Christian husbands and wives. This section begins by highlighting the fact that we ought to all submit ourselves to each other out of reverence for Christ. This is always a good starting place for learning how to maintain any relationship, it keeps Christ at the centre, where He ought to be kept in each of our lives.
Wives ought to submit to their husbands as they in turn ought to submit to Christ. It is a death to self process where Christ is being put first and a preference for one another becomes a reality. It is not a system of dominance and subjection but one of love. Christ never demanded obedience from anyone but He lived such a perfect example and invited His disciples to follow after Him.
