Hebrews ch11 v3

"Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear"

Genesis states that God created man in His own image. We discussed the fact that we have been created with a human version of the qualities and personality of God. Humankind has been given responsibility over animals and nature. They have the ability of in-depth, reasoned communication. The evil within the world is a result of mankind not allowing the true nature of God to be fully formed within them. Although God is described through imagery throughout the bible, God is Spirit and cannot be limited by human physical restrictions or fully conceived by the human mind.

We looked at a variety of verses from Genesis, the Psalms, Jeremiah and Acts, which attribute all of creation to the work of God. This led on to a discussion regarding the arguments surrounding evolution.

We referred to the 'Bible Handbook of Difficult Verses' by Josh McDowell. McDowell derives his arguments for concluding the scientific fact that there was a starting point, a beginning of our universe (genesis 1 verse 1), from the theories of Hubble and Einstein.

The creation theme will be continued next week.
