This week we started our Bible study on the book of Galatians. After a brief contextual history we began discussing Paul's opening statement that his calling had come directly from Jesus Christ. Having been appointed by the highest authority, Paul had the support of his Christian brothers and sisters to preach the Good News. In turn, we also need to always put God first and aim to please Him and not become ‘people pleasers’. When we are living to serve God, we find that we are joined by others who share the same vision and love for Jesus Christ and a passion for His gospel. This is something we need to let grow within us so that we don’t turn away from the gospel as some of the Galatians did.
The Galatians were admonished for ‘pretending’ to be following the Good News, and this highlighted to us the need to build our faith on scripture. We discussed that we can only be saved through Jesus Christ, and that we cannot live in a way that pleases people lest we weaken the Gospel (Gal ch1 v10). We need to hold fast to the true gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation (Rom ch1 v16).
