Thought for the week by Pastor Diana Rutherford

'When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place.' Matt 14:13

Sometimes through a small verse in the Gospels you catch a glimpse of Jesus the man.  Jesus withdrew on this occasion because He received word that John the Baptist had been beheaded. The crowds had gathered to hear Him preach, and through the crowds came the news. Which one of us would not want to withdraw in such a situation?

The Lord Jesus was no different, His own feelings reeling with the brutality and wickedness of men. He sought out a solitary place, a 'remote place' (v15) to be alone with His own thoughts.

We know He would have turned Godward and received that inner strength to carry on.

Let us follow in His example and when life becomes difficult, and our faith wavering, withdraw privately into God's Presence and receive the inner strength we need.
