Thought For The Week by Pastor Diana Rutherford

'If you are willing, you can make me clean.'  Mark 1:40

These words were spoken by a man with leprosy to Jesus.  The following verse says this: 'Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man.  "I am willing," he said. (verse 41).  What an amazing story and a startling message transmitted to us in so few words.  How many people today are seeking to be spiritually clean?  There are many all over the world who seek to know forgiveness for their sin, a sense of peace and wholeness within.  And the answer is so simple.

We read at the beginning of verse 40 that the man with leprosy came and begged Jesus on his knees and perhaps this is where so many people go wrong.  We need to approach Jesus with a very humble attitude.  We need to realise that we cannot make ourselves clean, that no acts of penance will bring forgiveness for our sins but a simple faith and trust that the One who was filled with compassion for the leper will also have compassion on us too.  Jesus is willing to make us clean from all our sin, guilt and wrongdoing.

Take the simple step of faith and on bended knee, implore the Christ  'If you are willing, you can make me clean.'
