Thought for the week by Pastor Diana Rutherford

'Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help.'

Psalm 146:5

Happiness is something we all crave. We look for it in the beauty of nature, on holiday or with our family and friends.

True soul satisfying happiness can only be found in God. There comes a time in our lives when everything dries up; we can find no satisfaction in anything we do. At that point we have a choice. We can discover that there is a God who is not against us to punish us for our sins, but a God who is very willing to be our help. If we accept that Help into our lives we find that we never view things the same way again. This is the way we find true soul satisfaction. We find a happiness that is not dependant on friendship, family or circumstances but is dependant only on our Help being there. Knowing that we have that underlying support in life; that we never face any circumstance or situation alone; that there is a greater authority and mind at work in our lives, leads to a deep security and restfulness which brings a happiness that is part of life.

When I see folks crushed through despair of one sort or another,  I often long to tell them and share with them how God has been my Help over many years. Never once has He failed me!

Why don't you try it? Ask the God of all creation to come to you and be your Help.

Psalm 86:7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon Thee, for Thou wilt answer me.
