Thought for the week by pastor Diana Rutherford

“Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?"

Luke 24:5

The Resurrection is the kernel of the Christian faith. If we don't believe in the miracle of the Resurrection, our faith, our prayers and our church attendance is worthless. We cannot be forgiven our sins because Christ hasn't broken the power of sin on the Cross; we cannot gain eternal life because there is no Resurrection.
Are we dead believers? Are we those who lean on traditionalism, on 'churchianity', rather than having a living faith that is throbbing with the power of the Resurrection? If Christ is risen, then we must also enter into the power of His Resurrection. We must find true forgiveness. We must find power to overcome our own sin. We must be filled with the Holy Spirit. We must seek to be among the living; those who are alive and are truly changed because we believe in Christ.
Look at the disciples after the Resurrection! They were filled with courage. They witnessed in the city of Jerusalem until they were thrown into jail and then they sang hymns and rejoiced in the privilege of suffering for Christ! Seek to be amongst those who are truly alive in Christ this Easter. Hang around with the 'dead' and you'll be dead pretty soon. Hang around with those who truly believe and very soon He will appear amongst you all and you too will cry like Thomas;
“My Lord and my God!” John 20:28
