Thought for the week by pastor Diana Rutherford

'But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.' John 4:35

Recently, when listening to someone speaking, I heard them use the phrase 'strategic vision'. I felt God using it to speak to me and took a note of it.

I think it's something we all need to have in life if we are to achieve anything worthwhile. If we don't we drift and meander and look back wondering what we did with those days.

If you start something new - a diet, a business, a uni course - you need a strategic vision, a plan to help you achieve your goal. And so, when reaching the lost or building a church or house group you need a strategic vision. In fact, I think each individual within that church or house group should have a strategic vision. It might be to pray for an opportunity to speak to someone about Christ; or to overcome a particular part of their nature but whatever it is there needs to be grit and determination to achieve the goal.

We have the same goals in educational circles. Even primary school children are expected to set their own targets at the beginning of the week and attempt to achieve them by the end of the week. It's where I think many Christians go wrong. They haven't set short term targets! Just a long term target of going to heaven!

The only difference from making a plan of action is that when a Christian sets a target it should become a matter of prayer. They should consult God by the power of the Holy Spirit before jumping to conclusions. They need to allow themselves to be examined by the Holy Spirit to find out what their need, next step is or what goal they should set themselves.

The above verse says the first goal we ought to achieve is to 'wake up'. Christ surely meant we were to become alert, aware of others besides our sleepy selves; to begin to see the need around us the passion and purpose of Christ for the lost! Secondly to begin to pray and see what part we have to play in tackling this mighty harvest.

This week, if each one who reads this thought, set themselves a strategic vision, a goal, purpose or plan and attempted with all their strength to achieve it what a difference it would make not only for each one of us but for others around us.

If this word brings life to your spirit and helps you to make a plan feel free to let me know via our comments button or email address. I would be delighted to hear what strategic vision He gives you. God bless.
