Thought for the week by Pastor Diana Rutherford

“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.” Romans 4:7-8

This is fundamentally what Christianity is about: a clean slate; a new beginning!

In so many religions across the world you have to work towards a higher attainment in the faith. In Christianity you have to simply accept.

We cannot change ourselves, although we should be willing to try. We cannot remove our past sins and offences, although we should be willing to turn away from everything we know to be wrong.

No matter how willing we are there is part of the Christian faith we cannot do. Only Christ can do it for us and it is perfectly described in this verse.

Not only is our disobedience forgiven but our sins are put out of sight and yes, even more than this, our record is cleared! Can you begin to imagine what that means? Not one wrong choice or sin will be held against us on the day of judgement. Our sins though many will be wiped away, put out of sight, our record clean. This is not something we can work towards even though we have been a Christian for a long time. It is something we have to accept and feel the effect of it in the deepest recesses of our being.

This is true Salvation! A new start, a clean slate. This is what gives us power to walk this world in white; to no longer be disobedient but become obedient loving children of God who have been changed by grace.

Take time to meditate on this verse and let the full impact of it hit home and change you forever.
